What's Luck Got To Do With It? is a free CBT game to help children learn to live life with a strategy.

What’s Luck Got to Do With It is a FREE cognitive-behavioral therapy game to help children develop an internal locus of control. It focuses on helping children identify what they can and cannot control. It also emphasizes living life with a strategy. When children identify their goals, they can formulate a plan to achieve them. This offers a sense of hope and direction for their future.

I find that many elementary-aged children fail to recognize the consequences of their actions and describe them as being unlucky. Other kids win because they are lucky. Their peers get good grades because of luck on a test. This game helps break down that mindset and offers the tools and skills needed to overcome challenges and feel on top. The imagery makes this game perfect for St. Patrick's Day!

Card Categories:

  • Lucky Day: These cards help children distinguish between luck and skill/strategy.

  • Small Gains:  Children will learn that small steps in the right direction lead to major victories over time.

  • Guiding Lights:  Other people can either help you achieve your goals or hold you back. Children will evaluate the influence of their friends to determine if they are motivating them or distracting them from their goals.

  • Skill Set:  Everyone has different gifts, talents, and personality types. These cards help children discover their unique abilities rather than comparing themselves to others.

  • Where Are You Going?: Kids will be challenged to reflect on their goals, dreams, and aspirations for life. They will be able to define what they want to achieve, which will prompt a sense of purpose.

  • Winning Strategy: Kids can consider how to think ahead and plan for their future, creating a roadmap to success.

  • What’s Your Role:  We all wear many hats. For kids, they are often a son, a daughter, a student, an athlete, an artist, etc. Each role will come with different expectations for performance and behavior.

This game is best for children ages 5-13.
